For over fifteen years, Miss Helma Zukas has accompanied me through life, residing in her corner of my mind (and heart!), reminding me to pay attention to all the oddities of the world, the Northwest in particular, and libraries especially. It's bittersweet to end the series with Farewell, Miss Zukas, the twelfth installment. It was time to let her go, a tough decision for any series author, but I can only say it felt "right." I like to think of her, out there somewhere, continuing in a life that's as exciting and fulfilling as she deserves. I had originally planned to end the series with the eleventh book, after the catastrophic changes in the publishing world, but readers kept asking me what happened, and rightfully felt the issues in Helma's life hadn't been resolved, and after a while, so did I. So ultimately, the final book became an independent endeavor, which has been an adventure. Thank you to the wonderful readers - you've been a treasure and an inspiration. And what can I say about Seattle Mystery Bookshop!? This is a heaven for readers, the very best bookshop I know. Every time I step through its doors, I'm "home." Bravo, bravo, bravo!
