Can't say when this was taken (we had an off-sight Jance event on Nov 18, 1996 and this might be from that night) but we think it was in celebration of the Bill's birthday, not the shops - that's his late wife B Jo smiling behind him - but it seems so appropriate to use the picture. After all, the shop and Bill are inseperable.
Here are some shots of the shop when it was just a few months old:
There's Bill at our original check-out counter. Computerizing the shop was a couple of years away. We wrote all the sales out longhand on legal pads. Ordered from them, too.
If you look at the wall behind the chair, you can see the entire section of Northwest Authors. Yes, in the Fall of 1990, they all fit into an 8'x5' section, with Jance's paperbacks (all 9 of them) fitting in a floor display.
The poster on the post is how we can date these photos - future signings with Aaron Elkins, Lawrence Block and Marcia Muller in Oct - all of the books came out in Sept and Oct of 1990 and are among the earliest author events the shop hosted.
Thanks for your support over the last two decades. Let's make it three!
