The aptly named website The Smoking Gun today reported that someone attempted to mail eleven pounds of marijuana from San Diego to St. Martin's Press in New York City. The 'Mary Jane' was split into two parcels, each to be sent via Express Mail. A postal employee found the aroma emanating from the packages to be 'suspicious' and called the authorities. Drug-sniffing dogs agreed with the postal worker and later asked for the afternoon off to get some kibble and lay around in the sun and doze.
As a educational service, we'd like to pass along the information that wrapping over five pounds of pot in layers of plastic and then dryer sheets is not enough to fool alert postal employees or well-trained dogs. Just so you know...
Both packages were addressed to "Karen Wright" at the publisher's headquaters in the famed Flatiron Building on 5th Avenue in Mahanttan. Workers at the internationally prominent publisher say no one by that name currently works there and, of course, no one has come forward to ask if a couple of boxes worth up to $35,000 each that they were expecting have arrived.
The company listed on the mailing addresses as the sender was ABT Books, which was determined to be a fictitious company.
Needless to say, if they've ever sent anything to us we don't remember... our memories are a little fuzzy on that.
