With the news of yet another mass shooting, this one the school shooting in Connecticut, words fail and there is no way to address this crime here. We can say nothing to make it better, take away the horror, remove the stain from the suvivors or console the bereaved.
There are times when selling books about crime and murder for the entertainment of
folks just seems absurd.
This is one of them.
I agree, JB. Like everyone else, the senseless violence has been on my mind all day. But when it comes to crime novels, I think it's important for those of us who write, sell, and read the books to remember that we do so not because we are obsessed with death, but because we are searching for answers. Through stories, we are empowered with insight into motives, we find logic, order, and justice. And although the tragedies of real life rarely bring us satisfactory conclusions such as are in novels, I do believe the journey the stories take us on help us better understand and perhaps make positive differences in the real world.
